What is a "Victory Volunteer"?

Every public campaign requires a theme; here we harken back to the beginning of WWII, which was the last time the U.S. Constitution faced grave and unknown dangers.

The Office of Civilian Defense, later known simply as Civil Defense, was created for both practical wartime needs and to give all Americans a meaningful opportunity to participate in the defense of our country. People were encouraged to become "Victory Volunteers."

The tasks varied in formality and scope--some volunteers served the Civilian Defense organization as air raid wardens, public information officers, and in mutual aid organizations. Outside the organization, homemakers were encouraged to grow Victory Gardens. Others organized drives to collect valuable scrap items for the war effort. In many cases it was much better than sitting at home, glued to the radio for the latest war bulletins, feeling helpless.

Today we are not officially at war with an external enemy, but many Americans are very concerned about our political environment and the perceived threats to our rights, the stability of our government institutions, and the American way of life.

Like the citizens in the 1940s, many are glued to the Internet for the latest news, wishing they could do something meaningful. Some are organizing or participating in public events, others are supporting organizations and politicians dedicated to addressing these issues, and some have begun letter writing campaigns to bring their concerns to the attention of others.

Here, we are offering simple postcards with an effective message.

By signing an oath to defend the Constitution and mailing it to your representatives, you are letting them know that you know about their oath to defend the Constitution and you take it seriously. In the message space you can offer them thanks for doing so, or call them out and demand they do better. You can draw their attention to events that need their attention, as often as you wish.

(Note: there is no formal Victory Volunteer organization; no leadership, no membership, no lists, no location, no email address. Anyone can be a Victory Volunteer, and it is up to you to make of it what you will--just remember, the intended focus is defending the Constitution, which belongs to all Americans.)
